Stress and Essential Oils
  Home
Here are some notes on how I use essential oils and floral waters when I am stressed:

Essential Oils

JOY is a beautiful complimentary blend of essential oils.  When inhaled, it brings back memories of being loved, being held,
sharing loving times, feeling and opening these blocks in our lives where perhaps we have shut down to love or receiving love
or love of self. The fragrance of this blend of oils promotes the feelings of love, self-love, and confidence.

Joy contains these oils:

        Rose
        Bergamot
        Mandarin
        Ylang Ylang
        Lemon
        Jasmine
        Palmarosa
        Roman Chamomile
        Rosewood
        Geranium

My favorite way to use Joy is to massage 3- 6 drops on the bottom of each foot.  You can also rub it over heart, ears, neck,
thymus, heart charkas, temples, across brow, and wrists.  Put in bath water (4-8 drops).   When feeling down, put 5 drops in
your non-dominant hand, stir 3 times, massage over heart and breathe deeply.   Wear as perfume or cologne, especially over
the heart.   Avoid exposing skin to sunlight for 3 to 6 hours after applying Joy.

LAVENDER is one of my favorite essential oils!   I keep a bottle of Lavender in my office, by my bed, and in my purse.  If
traffic begins to ‘get to me’, I take a nice sniff of this lovely oil to bring calmness into the car.  I also take a sniff when a
particularly noxious vehicle goes by.  If I am tense or nervous a whiff of Lavender is very relaxing.  I rub a drop on my
pillowcase to help me to go to sleep peacefully.  When I have a headache, I often rub a drop of Lavender on my temples
and/or where my head and neck meet to relieve the pain.

Lavender is safe for use on children and animals.   I know several people who massage it on their little ones’ feet or put a drop
or two in their bath water to help them calm down and go to sleep.  I use lavender to calm agitated horses and dogs by rubbing
it on my hands so they can smell it, massaging in on their hooves/the pads of their feet, and on their chests (so they can inhale
it).

Lavender also is wonderful in a tubful of hot water.   Begin by using 3 or 4 drops and gradually increase the amount if you like.
I personally like to use 9-13 drops, depending on the size of the tub.  A cleansing and relaxing bath recipe is to dissolve ½ to 1
cup of sea salt and an equal amount of baking soda in a tub of hot water and add 9 drops of Lavender.  The sea salt and
baking soda do the cleansing (and skin softening), while the hot water and Lavender take care of the relaxation!  But mostly, I
just open the bottle and sniff – I LOVE the aroma!!!

PEACE & CALMING is a lovely blend of oils that have historically been used to reduce depression, anxiety, stress and
insomnia.  It also may reduce tensions and uplift one’s spirits.   I like to use it at the end of a stressful day to help me relax and
get to sleep.  I also massage a drop on my dog’s ears or paws to calm him, especially during a thunderstorm.  I use it on my
horse when she is anxious and stressed.

Peace & Calming contains Cistus, Ylang Ylang, Blue Tansy, Patchouly, Tangerine, and Orange.  I diffuse it, massage it on my
feet, wear it as a perfume, a few (3-4) drops in bath water is very relaxing.  I often open the bottle and simply inhale.

VALOR was formulated to balance electrical energies in the body.  This blend of essential oils has been used to help
overcome fear, build courage and confidence, and bring a feeling of calmness, peace, and relaxation.  Valor contains:

Rosewood – soothing and nourishing to the skin
Blue Tansy –helps calm the lymphatic system and cleanse the liver
Frankincense – stimulates the limbic part of the brain, helping to overcome stress and elevating the mind
Spruce – helps open/release emotional blocks, bringing balance and grounding
Almond Oil as a carrier oil

Valor is a powerful, healing oil to use/receive in a massage.  Massaging 2 or 3 drops on the bottom of my feet, then holding
my feet for several minutes, right hand on right foot, left hand on left foot, relieves headaches. This also relieves stress and
calms and balances me.   I often massage 2 –4 drops on the bottoms of my feet in the mornings to start my day in a balanced,
calm manner.  Before bed, I rub 4 drops on the bottoms of my feet to help me sleep through the night.  Valor has a lovely
aroma and can be worn as a perfume.

Floral Waters

These fragrant waters are a by-product of the essential oil distillation process.  This essential water is less concentrated than
the essential oil and therefore is considered to be a homeopathic version of the oil.  Floral waters (also known as hydrosols)
are hydrating, protective, and nurturing to the skin.  They are known to be calming, soothing, uplifting, and relaxing.  They can
be sprayed on the skin, on animals, in the air as a freshener, and plants (to deter pests).

For stress relief, I use
Rose, Lavender, and Neroli (Orange Blossom) hydrosols.  I spray them in the air, on my face, skin,
and hair, and on my pillow at night.  I find that they help me to relax and calm down.  They have a gentle scent that I love.
