About Floral Waters
  Home
These aromatic waters are actually a byproduct of the steam distillation process that produces essential oils.  At the end of the
distillation process, the steam, laden with essential oils, goes into a specially shaped vat.  The essential oils rise to the top
and the water from the steam settles in the bottom.  This lovely, gently scented water is called essential water, floral water, or
hydrosol.  The therapeutic properties are similar to those of essential oils.  However, they are much less potent – the
homeopathic version of essential oils.

Hydrosols can be sprayed in the home or office as an air freshener, on the face to energize oneself, on the skin to hydrate and
sooth it, and on pets and plants to deter pests.  They can be put in bath water.  I keep floral waters at the barn to spray on
minor cuts and scrapes (mine and the horses!).   I spray Lavender essential water on my pillow at night.   I also spray it on
Zeus (our wonderful old dog) to relax him at night.  They can be put beverages.  The French have been known to add rose
floral water to wine for a refreshing, healthy (!) drink.  We had a French exchange student who took Rose water whenever she
had a headache.  Best of all, these lovely scented waters are inexpensive.

I especially love Rose, neroli (orange blossom) and lavender (Nancy please make each of these a link to the corresponding
information sheets) hydrosols.  I use rose on my face, before putting lotion on, and in my hair, after shampooing.  I spray neroli
on my face as a pick-me-up during the day. It is lovely for skin and is very uplifting to the emotions.  Neroli is also a very
refreshing room deodorizer.  I spray lavender on my pillow at night.  I also spray Zeus (our lovely aged Rottweiler) every night
with lavender to help him sleep.  It also makes him smell nice (at least to me!).  He likes hydrosols better than essential oils, as
the smell is much less intense (dogs scent is 10,000 times more sensitive than humans).

Currently, I have three organic, steam distilled floral waters available: Rose, Neroli, and Lavender.  Clary Sage, Idaho Tansy,
Lavender, Red Cedar, Spearmint, Peppermint, Melissa, and Mountain Essence are available seasonally from Young Living
Essential Oils (contact me for details).
