Melaleuca (Tea Tree)
  Home
Melaleuca alternifolia is more commonly known as Tea Tree.  This essential oil is distilled from the Australian Tea Tree.  The
aborigines have used its leaves for many, many years in their natural pharmacoepia to heal cuts, wounds, and skin infections.
In France, it is used medicinally for conditions such as athlete’s foot, colds, flu, gum disease, rashes, and sunburn.

Melaleuca alternifolia has a reputation being helpful with acne, burns, candida, warts, and wounds, to name a few.  It has been
known to help the body create a hostile environment for infection, microbes, bacteria, fungus, viruses, parasites, and
inflammation.  Research has shown it to be effective against toenail onychomycosis, bacterial vaginosis, and various
pathogenic organisms (Essential Desk Reference, p. 60).

Suggested Applications:

I use Melaleuca alternifolia quite often.  When I feel a sore throat or cold coming on, I place a little on a finger and then put it in
my mouth (in a bit of saliva), swish it around and swallow.  I repeat this every 10 minutes for an hour (or at least several times)
and then do it as needed throughout the day.  It really helps to take that “I am coming down with something” feeling away.

I put a drop of Melaleuca alternifolia on cuts, scrapes, rashes, and wounds.  Several friends swear by it as a way to get rid of
toenail fungus.  I often put two to four drops in my hot stones between massages to ‘clean’ them (in addition to turning the
temperature control to 425 degrees for 15 minutes before the next use).  I have put a drop on my toothbrush when,
inadvertently, I used tap water to brush my teeth in a remote village in Mexico (I also used Thieves, Lemon, and Oregano).
