Lemon
  Home
Lemon has one of the freshest aromas of any of the essential oils.  It has been used traditionally in skin care – to cleanse skin
and reduce wrinkles, for its disinfecting properties, and for its ability to kill bacteria.  Jean Valnet, MD, says that diffused
Lemon oil can kill various bacteria from 15 minutes to 3 hours, depending on the bacteria.  (See his book, The Practice of
Aromatherapy).

Lemon essential oil has a reputation for helping with anxiety, blood pressure, digestion, liver support, emotional well-being,
memory improvement, repelling insects, and housecleaning.  What a versatile oil!

I use Lemon essential oil as a flavor for water, especially when I am away from home where water may not taste so good. I
also put it on my husband’s feet as I have heard that it lowers blood pressure.

I have used a drop or more on carpet to remove stains, especially pet stains (always test it first to make sure that it won’t
change the carpet color – have not seen that, but there is always a first time).  Lemon oil is known for removing grease spots,
wood stain, oil, and gum.

I diffuse Lemon oil to freshen the air at home.  I put a drop or two on cotton, or a washcloth, to purify air, in my car, in hotel
rooms, etc.

Lemon oil can be added to water when doing dishes and laundry.  A few drops on a dust cloth or 10 drops in distilled water in
a spray bottle can be used to polish furniture and clean and disinfect kitchens and baths.

Lemon oil supports the digestive, respiratory, immune, and lymph systems.  It is good for the skin.

As Lemon essential oil is photosensitive, it is good to avoid sunlight for 12 hours after putting it on the skin.  I usually put it on
the bottoms of my feet – they hardly ever see sunlight!  Drinking it does not cause sun sensitivity.
