Lavender
  Home
Lavender is one of my favorite essential oils!  Historically, Lavender was used for just about everything, including arthritis,
asthma, boils, bruises, cold sores, depression, earaches, fainting, gallstones, hay fever, headaches, high blood pressure,
hives, insect bites, infection, influenza, laryngitis, migraines, nervous tension, respiratory function, skin conditions, stress,
sunburns, sunstroke, tension, throat infections, whooping cough, and wounds, to mention a few.  I keep hearing Lavender
described as the “Swiss Army knife of the herb world”!

I keep a bottle of Lavender in my purse.  If traffic begins to ‘get to me’, I take a nice sniff of this lovely oil to bring calm into the
car.  I also take a sniff when a particularly noxious vehicle goes by.  If I am tense or nervous while on a journey, a whiff of
Lavender is very relaxing.  I rub a drop on my pillowcase in hotels to remove the smell of cleaning supplies and to help me to
go to sleep peacefully.

I put a small drop of Lavender on cuts to cleanse them and accelerate the healing process.  When I have a headache, I often
rub a drop of Lavendar on my temples and/or where my head and neck meet to relieve the pain.

Lavender can be diffused or applied topically.  It is safe for use on small children.   I know several people who massage it on
their little ones’ feet or put a drop or two in their bath water to help them calm down and go to sleep.

Animals love Lavender!  After my horse had a very serious surgery, I put Lavender on my hands and let her smell it.  Her
breathing went from shallow and rapid to deep and slow in seconds.  I use lavender to calm agitated horses, dogs, and cats
by rubbing it on my hands so they can smell it, massaging in on the pads of their feet, and on their chests (so they can inhale
it).

Lavender also is wonderful in a tubful of hot water.   Begin by using 3 or 4 drops and gradually increase the amount if you like.
I personally like to use 9-13 drops, depending on the size of the tub.  A cleansing and relaxing bath recipe is to dissolve ˝ to 1
cup of sea salt and an equal amount of baking soda in a tub of hot water and add drops of Lavender.  The sea salt and baking
soda do the cleansing (and skin softening), while the hot water and Lavender take care of the relaxation!  But mostly, I just
open the bottle and sniff – I LOVE the aroma!!!
